Senior Automation Engineer
Location: Ruwais, UAE
• Coordinates, monitors and verifies Automation Engineering aspects in the major projects.
• Identifies user requirements for DCS systems, advanced control, process optimisation and presents to Projects Coordinator and management with relevant technical and financial justifications for adoption.
• Reviews conceptual design and specifications of new / amended systems and identifies any implementation problems.
• Reviews deficiencies and discusses provided solutions by Vendors for various issues related to Distributed Control System (DCS), Advanced Process Control (APC), Real Time Database (PI), plant automation and Third Party Systems Integration to DCS such as MCM, IPCS, MCC and FAS.
Work Performed:
Project Participation with Vendor:
• Carries out or reviews FEED studies for new or modified DCS and advanced control related projects in addition to participating in the review of technical design of new DCS systems. Participates in projects tests (e.g. FAT, IFAT, SIT and SAT). Highlights punch lists items and areas of concern to the company.
Process Control Network:
• Identifies requirements for DCS systems, advanced process control system, process optimisation technology and presents to management with appropriate justifications for approval. Discusses major issues with Process Engineering personnel and coordinates requirements as necessary. Advises on system configuration activities carried out in Distribution Control System (DCS), APC, PI and advanced plant automation. Monitors DCS documents submission by Contractor from FEED stage, EPC stage up to As Built drawings.
System Enhancement:
• Reviews conceptual designs of control systems required by users for new projects or new system improvement. Reviews DCS hardware/software design and DCS graphics features. Liaises closely with Process Engineering and Refinery Operation teams on plant optimisation issues from software point of view and suitable process graphics implementation.
Coordination of External Consultants and Contractors:
• Coordinates and supervises the work of external DCS consultants, contractors or engineers. Coordinates Contractor site visits to ensure proper understanding of existing refinery structure and provides integration documents and drawings. Follows up work progress and performance, and ensures proper and competent manpower availability at site. Coordinates with Company’s Support team in HQ as required.
Regular Meeting with PMC, EPC Contractors and DCS Vendors Engineers:
• Follows up outstanding issues, advises and initiates technical discussions among engineers, updates and reports system defects. Monitors EPC Contractors and DCS Vendors engineers during system configuration and installation. Ensures proper corrective action plan for Refinery team punch items during FAT, IFAT, SIT and SAT. Ensures HSE regulations and safety rules are being followed. Follows up on the execution of projects and discusses the stages of implementation and initiates solutions when needed. Follows up on the soft-ware development progress.
Training Programs:
• Participates in the development of on-the-job training and site training programmes for Refinery Automation employees. Plant Systems Applications Support: Supports and maintains the business applications running at the site e.g. automation network such as PI , DCS Archival and DCS interface applications running within the DCS.
HSE:
• Knows the Company’s Health, Safety, Environment and Fire policy, procedures, regulations and objectives and ensures that they are effectively implemented and incorporated in all planning activities.
Minimum Requirements:
• BSc in Electronics Engineering.
• 9 years’ experience in refinery and process control applications and databases.
• Good working knowledge of relevant computer applications and software.
• Good knowledge of English.
• YOKOGAWA Experience preferred.
